Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Gentlemen Marry Brunettes are the two books which are written by Anita Loos and were published in 1925 and in1927 respectively.
These books are the diaries which are written by Lorelei Lee, a pretty flapper who is living it up in the 1920s. To give an idea about the books here is the subtitle “Diary of a Professional Lady”.
“Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” is a diary of a lady and her day-to-day life, the relationships with various men, her trip to Europe and her getting married. She is very funny in her writings and she is striving for intellectual knowledge and loves to learn things. She thinks she is educated and fairly high-class, which makes her social gaffes even funnier. She is very likable. The adventures and the interpretation of how the world works and what men are for explained by Lorelei are very interesting.
And “Gentlemen Marry Brunettes” is again a dairy by Lorelei, which tells the story of her friend, which doesn’t seemed to be as interesting as the first. Anita Loos got the idea to write these books when she noticed that all the men around her were falling over the blonde in the room and paying no attention to her, a brunette, even though she was pretty and intelligent.
